How to log-in to the new mailing-list interface?

If you are a member of EGO, the Virgo Collaboration or the ET Collaboration, you can use your EGO Active Directory credentials (username and password). This one account is used to access all of the mailing-lists under the three domains (EGO, Virgo ET). You do not need to create a separate account for each domain.

If you are not an EGO / Virgo / ET member, you need to go through the 'First Login' procedure and create a dedicated account, which will work for any mailing-list to which you might be subscribed in the virgo-gw.eu, ego-gw.it or et-gw.eu domains.

How to choose your subscription e-mail address

If you have an EGO Active Directory account, your subscription e-mail address is taken from your official e-mail address in the Active Directory database (which matches your VMD/ETMD record(s) if you are a Virgo or ET member). In this case changing your e-mail address from the Sympa mailing-list web interface won't work. In addition you are already automatically subscribed to the list virgo-l@virgo-gw.eu , but only if you already accepted the privacy policy in the VMD.

There are cases where an institution's mail server uses a sender address that is different from the one registered in the official registries when relaying your outgoing mail. This can result in your posts to the mailing-lists being forwarded to the list moderators. In this case you should modify your "From:" address in your mail client to ensure that it corresponds to the one you have published or, alternatively, ask us to change your Active Directory e-mail record, sending a mail to service@ego-gw.it.

If you do not have an EGO Active Directory account, then you can change your subscription address directly on mlist.virgo-gw.eu going through your profile icon at the top right of the web interface. All your subscriptions will be automatically updated and from that moment on you will have to log-in with your new e-mail address.

Notes on the old mailing lists addresses

The Virgo mailing-lists based at EGO were migrated from the old Mailman platform to the new Sympa-based platform on the 2nd of October, 2024. You may be familiar with the new platform as it is already used for ET mailing-lists.

What changed with the migration?

1. The domain part of the addresses of the mailing-lists changed from ego-gw.it or virgo.infn.it to virgo-gw.eu.
2. All of the mailing-lists became lower-case.
3. The Virgo Collaboration-wide mailing-list - the virgo-l mailing-list - is now populated automatically from the Virgo Members Database (VMD). In order to be automatically subscribed to the virgo-l you need to access the VMD and accept the privacy policy presented at log-in.

The new mailing-list addresses and their counterparts on the previous platform

In the table below you can see how each mailing-list address has changed.

Postings to the old addresses will be rejected with an error message ("too many hops") back to the sender.

Please update all the web pages which report the previous adresses.
